Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2012)

Written by Jay Duplass, Mark Duplas
Directed by Jay & Mark Duplass
Starring Jason Segel, Judy Greer, & Ed Helms

Have you seen the movie signs? I’m talking about the M. Night Shyamalan’s blockbuster hit starring Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix… yeah, that one. Well, if you have seen that movie and liked it then you will most likely enjoy this one.

The plot is a little on the depressing side to start but it builds on itself. Segel plays Jeff, the vision quest fool who holds the key to the story. The rest of the cast, including Susan Sarandon as Jeff’s mom, Ed holms and Judy Greer all look to Jeff to find meaning in their lives. Jeff has an eerie point-of-view of the world as if there is a sign or force pointing him toward his destiny. And that all things are connected.

The film style is realistic and simple with very little noticeable camera moves or technique. But that almost is a style in itself as you hold on to every second as if it was truly happening in the moment. The film has a artistic and independent feel to it that adds a sense of surrealism. The film has a great ending that adds to this mood…

Top 5. This film was not a earth shatter’er but it had a truth to it that you don’t get to see enough in Hollywood movies these days. I loved this film. Not while I was watching it but I loved it the next day and the day after that. This film will grow on you after you see it and that is something you should see and experience!!!
